Panmure Bus Shelter Green Roof Project
The project involved the installation of a green roof systems at the existing Panmure Bus Interchange East bound platform.
As one of Auckland larger interchange platforms, the Installation is some 70m long and is able to collect and redistribute rainwater to sustain the plants.
The Airey Consultants Ltd structural team offered advice and assessment of the existing structure and ensured that the proposed new loads were kept to a minimum thereby ensuring any demolition or remedial works to the existing system were minimised and the associated carbon footprint of the construction and installation was maximised.
The intention from the outset was to drive maximum environment benefit and keep demolition and waste to a minimum. All while keeping this significant transport hub alive and active.
The potential of this trial is huge. There are thousands of small and mid-sized bus stops across the greater Auckland region and if we could install a sustainable green roof on all of them the total carbon sink and general environmental enhancement in our busy urban transport routes will be greatly improved.
