In addition to our more easily categorised work, Airey are proud to have worked on a range of unique and specialised structures. These projects have often required bespoke solutions and non-standard structural modelling or analysis. Our engineers are expert problem-solvers with the skills to design structures that are safe and stable to construct, operate and maintain.
We were the structural engineers on the Auckland Harbour Bridge Skypath project and have designed or peer reviewed large tanks, culverts, temporary event structures, platforms for bungy jumping/ziplining. Our technical experts are on the Auckland Council High Risk register for buildings up to 7 storeys and other high risk structures, as well as for seismic strengthening work.
Playground Design – Airey has provided structural design services for playground manufacturers for over 30 years. We have wide experience in the design of playgrounds and playground components including swings, track rides, swing bridges and large tower structures for use throughout New Zealand for all age groups. Mike Williams, a director in our Botany office, was selected as the Engineering NZ representative on the Standards New Zealand review committee for the 2016 review of the Playground Standard NZS5828:2016.
Tanks – Airey has extensive experience in specialist tank structures for a range of products and clients. Our portfolio includes the design and detailed large post tensioned concrete reservoirs to bespoke stainless steel tanks used for industrial purposes.
Carbon Fibre and FRP Strengthening Design and Peer Review – We have extensive and growing experience is this cutting-edge strengthening technique. Some of our recent works includes the strengthening design of floor diaphragms and lateral stability elements using FRP in historical structure that was being repurposed as a hotel. Other examples of our work include the remedial strengthening of a heavy RC beam that was damaged by a contractor during demolition works and in a recent third example we peer reviewed the column wrapping and localised diaphragm strengthening for a large multi storey building.
Bridges – Airey has been the structural engineer for a range of bridges ranging from simple 10m spans on remote walking tracks to State Highway bridges over the Whitianga Waterways through to the iconic concept design of the Auckland Skypath that was to be supported off the Auckland Harbour bridge. Our current work loads include bridging the Cardrona River and an access bridge to gain access through a difficult subdivision
