Remarkables Park - Queenstown

Airey Consultants are proud to have been the Civil Engineering Consultant to the Remarkables Park Limited (RPL) since 1995. The project covers approximately 160 hectares of deer farm in Frankton near Queenstown that has been rezoned from a Rural Zone to the Remarkables Park Special Zone which allows for a range of uses including industrial, commercial, retail, and residential/visitor accommodation.

Our initial involvement was in the preliminary infrastructure design and planning prior to the zone change to indicate the future infrastructure needs of this green field site.

The first construction took place in 1998 with the commencement of Stage 1 of the Shotover Park Industrial Estate. The success of stage 1 led to a further 4 stages with the last of 77 lots completed and sold in 1996.

1998 also saw the design and construction of Lucas Place, Hawthorne Drive and Tex Smith Lane. This new infrastructure allowed access to the first commercial buildings in the future Remarkables Shopping Centre and the New World supermarket was welcomed by Queenstown residents in 1999 as the first local supermarket. Over the following 10 years Airey Consultants have been involved in numerous civil design contracts to provide services, roading, parking and landscaping to another 8 large retail/commercial buildings that today make up the Remarkables Park Shopping Centre.
The success of the Shopping Centre led to the need for an upgraded junction at Lucas Place and State Highway 6.  A new roundabout was proposed to replace the existing tee intersection and Airey Consultants took on the design for this new junction on behalf of Transit NZ, Queenstown Lakes District Council, Remarkables Park Limited and Queenstown Airport Corporation. The project was finished on time and on budget to the satisfaction of all parties in 2006.
Currently Airey Consultants are undertaking several projects for RPL including 64 more industrial lots at Shotover Park, roading and services to new commercial and retail lots adjacent to the Remarkables Park Shopping Centre, preliminary design of a community facilities precinct including a hospital, aged care and retirement village and preliminary design of a 5000 bed resort, among others.

Those Airey’s staff associated with this project feel very privileged to have been involved in such an interesting and high quality development and have very much enjoyed the work and various research trips to the numerous mountain resort villages of world.
